Thought on Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Image
So now that some time has passed, I wanted to give my thoughts on Super Smash Bros Ultimate First, I LOVE the concept. Although I expected a lot of cuts, its cool to see Nintendo bringing back every character. I will also say the trailer does a great job of highlighting this, and it’s a good trailer overall. I can understand why fans will be really excited by this as fans typically hate cuts. However, we play Smash Bros games for the new characters, and it looks like this game may be light in this area. So far, only two new characters have been announced. While there will likely be more, I don’t expect it will be much (with the game’s director, Sakurai, stating not to expect too many). At the same time, of the 7 characters that are returning, only a few are truly unique with characters like Pichu, Young Link and Wolf being based on other characters. But even if they add some more characters, would it be enough given the fact that most of the stages are old too? Nintendo ha

Smash as a Service

Since Super Smash Bros release 19 years ago, video games have evolved. One such mutation, for better or worse, is the creation of “Games as a Service”. It has become a hot new term from the industry that basically equates to games constantly updating and adding new content paid for by additional paid content and add-ons. While I think analyst overblow it, it has grown due to the amount of revenue these games can generate. Nintendo, too, has been stepping into this market and I think the newest Smash will be the next game to try Nintendo’s unique take on this model. Splatoon Model Nintendo’s first foray into Games as a Service was really Splatoon. The game launched with a single player campaign and a few maps, weapons and items. Over time, the game was updated to include more maps, weapons and gear. The game also featured “Splat Fest” events where players could choose a team and fight for items and glory. Splatoon has been Nintendo’s most successful new IP, which the original

Timing the Roster

Back during the days of Smash 4 speculation, there was a thread where fans could post their rosters. One character that came up constantly was Animal Crossing Boy. This idea was often shot down by site veterans (who were well versed on Sakurai) because “Sakurai said he can't be in because he's not violent.” This wasn't some hogwash people came up with either; Sakurai did state that Animal Crossing Boy was excluded because he couldn't fight. His own words from the Iwata Ask. The most important thing was simply whether or not it would make players happy. I mean, there are lots of popular games with characters that just aren’t meant for fighting and were too hard to incorporate into the Smash Bros. title. Heading the list of these characters are the ones from the games we just mentioned, Nintendogs and Animal Crossing. Because these are games played by lots of people, I knew players would be happy to see them make an appearance. This is why I wanted to find a way t

Smash Switch Character Prediction

Image
If there is a new Smash Bros game, you have to make character predictions. While most people will focus on an entire roster, I'm going to focus on a few characters that I'm confident on. I learned with the last game that when you try and predict an entire roster, you're going to add a lot of iffy characters and you will be less accurate overall. Last time, out of, say 12-15 characters, I got 3 right. So I'm confident I can get 5. The below are my 5 characters I think will happen and my 1 special mention character (that could or could not happen) Characters Spring Man ARMS is one of Nintendo's biggest series that has come out in recent years. While not a successful as Splatoon, the game has sold well and attracted interest since its initial announcement. Moreoever, Nintendo has promoted the game numerous time in Nintendo Directs (even in the March 3 rd 2018 Direct with a tournament, despite content for the game ending). Before its release, the ga

New Blog

So turns out I can't get into my old blog, so here is the new theory craft blog. This is mostly just for posting Smash Brother's speculation and I'm mostly doing it for shits and giggles. I'll post when I feel like it. If you want to see the old blog, go here: http://smashchutheories.blogspot.com/  Obviously, I can't update the old one, so consider it a relic of a time long passed.
